How can I help at home?
- Build numbers concretely then talk about how that number compares to others:
- Build a number concretely, then skip count it (even if it won’t work out, then talk about why it did or didn’t work).
- Practice skip counting, there are many YouTube songs that put the skip counting patterns to music that you can use.
- Use numbers in your environment to practice one more, one less and two more, two less.
- Use numbers in your environment to practice partner numbers. Ex. there’s a 5 on the sign, what is the partner to 5 to make 10? To make 20?
- Use homemade flash cards to practice partners to 5 and 10. Ex. □ + 3 = 10
- Use a die or numbered cards to practice partner numbers. Ex. roll a 3 and you have to say the partner to 5.
- Compare and order numbers in your environment. Ask questions like: which is greater/least? How much greater/less than 10? Than 100? What number would fall between two numbers? Etc.
